Christiane Albrecht is lecturer and research group leader at the University of Bern, Switzerland. She received the M.Sc. degree from the Ludwig-Maximilian Universität Munich, Germany, in 1992 and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Bern, Switzerland, in 1998. From 1999 to 2003 she performed postgraduate studies at the Medical Research Council/Clinical Sciences Centre, London, United Kingdom, where she established her current research area in the field of membrane transport proteins. From 2003 to 2005 she headed her own research group at the Lehrstuhl für Physiologie of the Technische Universität München, Germany. Since 2006 she has been group leader at the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, University of Bern, working in the field of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters and their implication in the transmembrane transport of cholesterol. Currently she studies the physiological relevance of these transporters and their implication in diseases of the human placenta and mammary gland. Professor Albrecht is also a principal investigator in the “NCCR-TransCure”, one of the National Centers of Competence in Research awarded by the Swiss National Science Foundation in 2010.
