Jörn Justiz studied physics at the Freie Universität in Berlin, specializing in medical physics. Hereceived his diploma in 1998. After a professional experience in the finance business, he joined the Laboratory of Applied Mechanics and Reliability Analysis (LMAF) at the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, in 2000. There, he developed biomechanical models for human soft tissue. In 2004, he received his PhD from EPFL for his work on modeling the periodontal ligament.
After being employed at the Technology Transfer Office at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland, he joined the Angiography and X-Ray Department of Siemens Healthcare in Forchheim, Germany. Being part of the innovation group, he worked on new diagnostic and therapeutic applications and solutions based on angiographic images, especially for cardiologic and radiologic interventions.
In 2007, he went back to Switzerland obtaining a professorship of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences in Biel where he also co-heads the BME laboratory.
