Andrea holds a MSc and PhD in materials science from the ETH Zürich, Switzerland. After completing his PhD he joined Stratec Medical in early 2000 as a development engineer in the Biomaterials team and stayed with the company for 19 years. Throughout the first nearly 20 years of his professional career he remained loyal to the development and application of biomaterials in musculoskeletal surgery. His most significant achievement has been the implementation of an antibiotic-coated intramedullary nail in the product portfolio of Synthes. He was exposed to and gained significant experience in the regulatory aspects of medical device product development and market introduction, as well as with the requirements to quality management systems in medical device industry. When Andrea left DePuy Synthes in 2019 he was Director of Biomaterials R&D at the product development site in Oberdorf, Switzerland. Since 2019 Andrea is part of the AO Foundation's Development Incubator in Davos and focuses on projects in the fields of biotechnologies and biomaterials. He brings his product development, regulatory and quality expertise into the team and aims at providing project teams with a solid regulatory and quality background to make the projects fit for industrialization.
