Philippe Büchler received the Bachelor and Master degree in physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne before moving into biomechanics. He completed his thesis on numerical techniques for analysis in orthopedics and obtained a Ph.D in biomechanics from the same university in 2002. After working as a research scientist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and at the University hospital in Geneva, he joint the MEM Research Center, University of Bern in 2004 and became the head of the Computational Bioengineering group in 2006. His research interests include the application of numerical methods to study skeletal biomechanics as well as avascular soft tissues. Recently, electromagnetic field simulation and statistical finite element techniques have expanded his fields of research.
