Manuela Eugster studied mechanical engineering at ETH Zurich, where she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. During and after her master’s studies, she worked at Trumpf Maschinen AG, gaining experience in industrial engineering, advanced manufacturing technologies, and project management.She subsequently pursued a PhD in biomedical engineering at the University of Basel’s Biromed-Lab, which she completed in 2021. Her doctoral research focused on robotic and mechatronic systems for biomedical applications, combining expertise in robotics, medical technology, and millimetre-scale systems.After continuing her work at the Biromed-Lab as a postdoctoral researcher, she joined the ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research at the University of Bern and the Department of Neurosurgery, Bern University Hospital in 2023 as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Robotics and Micromechatronics. There, she founded the Neuro Robotics Group, which develops innovative robotic systems, surgical instruments, and micromechatronic devices designed to enhance the precision, efficiency, and safety of surgical procedures.
