Horst Heck studied Mathematics with Computer Science and received his Diploma in 2000 from the University of Karlsruhe (now KIT). He received his doctoral grade in 2003 from TU Darmstadt where he also habilitated in 2007. After postdoctoral research fellowships at Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan and the University of Washington in Seattle, US, he has been Professor for Mathematics at Bern University of Applied Sciences since 2012. His research interests are in the field of Partial Differential Equations (Fluid Models and Inverse Problems). Additionally, at the BUAS he started to get interested in image processing and machine learning. Besides teaching and working on research projects he also was supervisor of several Bachelor and Master Theses at BUAS.
