Jivko Stoyanov is leading the group of SCI Population Biobanking and Translational Medicine at the Swiss Paraplegic Research in Nottwil, Switzerland and is Titularprofessor at the University of Bern. He received a PhD in molecular biology from the University of Birmingham, UK, M.Sc. in Translational Medicine from the University of Edinburgh,Scotland,  M.Sc. in Biotechnology from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria and an EMBA from the University of St Gallen, Switzerland. From 2001 till 2007  he worked at the University of Bern on the  biological role of metals and on biology of the intervertebral disc.  At the Swiss Paraplegic Research, since 2007 he established a laboratory which works on topics related to the spinal cord injury (SCI) and heads the biobank of the multicenter Swiss Spinal Cord Injury Cohort Study (SwiSCI). Prof Stoyanov has been teaching since the beginning of the Master of Biomedical Engineering Program. He also supervises MSc as well as PhD students at the state of the art laboratories in Nottwil.
