Master in Biomedical Engineering

BME Day

BME Day 2009

The industry, medical doctors, and engineers meet for the Biomedical Engineering Day at the Inselspital in Bern with great success

240 participants enjoyed an exciting event in the Auditorium Rossi at the University Hospital (Inselspital). As many as eleven Swiss and international companies presented their business activities in form of oral presentations as well as interactive exhibitions. They covered a wide spectrum of clinically highly relevant biomedical engineering technology. Company sizes ranged from early start-ups via established SMEs up to large corporations. Dr. Herbert Reutimann, manging director of Unitectra, sensitized students in how to commercialize their research results. Extended coffee and lunch breaks as well as the final apero offered plenty of time for stimulating conversations between our highly qualified and motivated current and former students and staff members and company representatives.

Steffen Schumann received the Medical Cluster Award 2009 for his master thesis on "X-Ray Machine Calibration and its Feasible Application for 2D/2D Reconstruction of a Patient-Specific Surface Model of the Proximal Femur" advised by Dr. Guoyan Zheng from the Institute for Surgical Technology and Biomechanics. The award was handed over by the president of the Medical Cluster, Dr. Rubino Mordasini.

In addition, the Biomedical Engineering Day marked the start of our Biomedical Engineering Club, the newly founded alumni association.

We thank all the participants for making the first Biomedical Engineering Day a very special event and we cordially invite you to participate in our next Biomedical Engineering Day onJune 4, 2010.
