The most attended BME day in 16 years with over 350 participants !

On Friday, May 2nd, we had the great pleasure to welcome you to the 16th annual Biomedical Engineering Day. With over 350 participants, this year’s event was a huge success – and the best attended BME Day in 16 years! The event, rich in presentations from companies, researchers and students gives insight into potential carreer and academic paths. The company exhibition gives our students the opprtunity to talk directly with companies and get to know potential future employers. Alongside the company exhibition, research groups from the University of Bern and the Bern University of Applied Sciences, a partner within the Master's program, presented current research projects and scientific achievements. The BME day also hosted a live surgery performed by the department of Neurosurgery, the succesful surgery was performed by Levin Häni and moderated by Andreas Raabe.

The following awards for excellent academic achievements in the field of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Bern were presented:

Swiss Engineering Award for the best BME master's thesis:
1. Guillaume Cheng - The Influence of Fat Suppression on Parametric Mapping in MRI
2. Alicia Feist - Preclinical Validation of Mechanoregulatory Fracture Healing Simulations
3. Lukas Studer - Development of a High-Sensitivity Longitudial Brain Metastases Tracking Algorithm
Swiss Engineering Award for the best AIM master's thesis:
1. Marta Herrera - Advancing Glaucoma Proression Prediction with Machine Learning
2. Zahra Hamedi - AI-bsed Analysis of Abdominal Ultrasound Images to Support Medical Diagnosis in Emergency Departments
CCMT Award for the best PhD thesis:
1. Matteo Frigelli - Localised Corneal Stuffening for Refractive Correction: Experiments and Computational Analysis
2. Mathieu Simon - Multi-Scale Bone Morphology-Mechanical Property Relations in Ageing and Disease
3. Hanspeter Hess - Three-dimensional Diagnosis for Rotator Cuff Tear using Deep Learning Algorithm
